Food & Drink

While perhaps not up there with the region’s finest cuisines, Lao food can be tasty and interesting and is very similar to north-eastern Thai food. It can be very fiery so if you’re not accustomed to eating spicy food, be a bit wary of local restaurants, or ask the serving staff to make your food less spicy than normal. Being a former French colony means it’s easy to find baguettes, pastries and other French food throughout the country, although other western food might be a bit more tricky to find. Always stick to bottled water as the tap water in Laos isn’t safe to drink.
